Central Province · hill capital
Kandy
The last royal capital of Sri Lanka, set around a lake and home to the country's most sacred Buddhist temple.
International airport, Katunayake → Hill capital, Central Province
A direct private transfer from Colombo Airport to Kandy, usually the easiest first move for travellers starting their trip in the cultural capital.
The journey
The road runs from the airport through the western province and inland toward the hills. It is an easy first drive in Sri Lanka: good roads for most of the way, then a steady climb into Kandy as the scenery turns green. With a private car there is no need to negotiate a taxi fare in arrivals or wait for a shared shuttle.
This route runs in both directions. Travelling the other way — Kandy to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) — uses the same vehicle options and the same pricing approach.
Along the way
Pinnawala and the spice gardens are the usual requests. Both add time, so tell us what time your hotel check-in starts and we will plan around it.

FAQ
It depends on your landing time. An afternoon arrival usually works well for driving straight to Kandy; a late-evening arrival often makes a short Colombo or Negombo stop more comfortable. We will tell you honestly which fits your flight.
Yes, Pinnawala is on the natural route inland. Feeding times vary, so if seeing the elephants matters to you, mention it when you enquire and we will time the stop properly.
