The journey

Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) to Mirissa

You travel south on the expressway, then leave the highway for the coastal roads that drop into Mirissa. The drive is longer than Galle but still manageable on arrival day, and having the car private means you decide whether to push on or break the journey at Galle or Unawatuna for lunch.

This route runs in both directions. Travelling the other way — Mirissa to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) — uses the same vehicle options and the same pricing approach.

Along the way

Typical stops on this drive

  • Galle Fort for a walk if you want to break the journey
  • Unawatuna or Koggala for a swim
  • Coastal viewpoints in the final stretch south of Weligama

Optional stops

The Galle Fort stop is the most common request and works well around lunchtime. Whale-watching boats leave early in the morning, so if you have a dawn booking, tell us and we will time the transfer accordingly.

Good to know

Before you book this transfer

  • Mirissa is a short hop from Weligama and a little further from Galle — if your stay is in Weligama, book that drop instead.
  • Roads into Mirissa are narrow and busy in season; we drop you as close as the road allows.
  • If you arrive in the afternoon, the last hour of light along the coast is one of the better parts of the drive.
  • Combining this arrival with a multi-day tour? We can start your itinerary directly from the airport.

FAQ

Questions about this transfer

How long is the drive from Colombo Airport to Mirissa?

Around three to three and a half hours without long stops. Add time if you want lunch at Galle Fort or a swim on the way down.

Can we stop at Galle Fort during the transfer?

Yes. Galle sits naturally on this route, and most guests find a one-hour stop there fits well. We will confirm timing based on your flight and hotel check-in.

Is this transfer suitable after a long-haul flight?

It is a long first drive. If you land after a night flight, we will usually suggest a short rest stop and an unhurried start rather than a rushed departure from arrivals.
